Some books to keep on your shelf and refer to from time to time:
What if? Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers by Anne Bernays and Pamela Painter
This is my go-to book for refreshing my thinking on all the elements of fiction, from character development to plot to point-of-view, etc. Great exercises for writers at all stages of writing
Fiction Writer’s Workshop by Josip Novakovich.
This book presents the fundamentals of ten basic elements of fiction writing.
Building your author website, by Robert Mening: covers everything (in step by step fashion) a writer needs to know to build their very own beautiful website in just under an hour.
I found this book incredibly helpful though I didn’t manage to write my novel in 90 days. I decided I’d give it a year, but finished the first draft in 9 months! Some of us have to work for a living. While I loved this book and the exercises, I didn’t agree with her time allotted for each step. I spent much more time on them than she suggested. And I spent considerably more time writing my characters’ profiles.
If you’d like to use a full-service DIY publishing service, this book analyzes, compares, and provides insight into a number of self-publishing companies.
Be sure to purchase the most recent copy. I recommended this book to a friend and she purchased an older version, which turned out to have very outdated information. Mark updates regularly
We had a terrible experience publishing with Booklocker, so I would recommend avoiding them! I imagine plenty of people have had better luck, but I thought I’d pass that on.
