Literary Agency Service
ISO…As a literary agent, I am in search of a few talented and dedicated writers - young, old, or in-between - who are passionate about their work, and who, through their writing, have something to say - something important or compelling or humorous or emotional or achingly beautiful.
On the non-fiction side, I am drawn to books that focus on some injustice in the world, in particular the environment, human rights, children's and women's issues. I also like books that have a spiritual or healing bent, that in some way lift one up and/or can help lead to a more satisfying life. And, I love travel and adventure stories - heart-stopping, real, live-action thrillers.
In terms of fiction, it's harder to say what I like and what I don't like. I am drawn to work that has something meaningful to say; I want to be touched by the story; I want to be drawn in and find that I can't put the book down. For lack of a better phrase, I want the book "to speak to me," and hopefully if it does that, then it will have that effect on others as well.
Having said all that, I tend to prefer literary novels, but literary with plot (not too esoteric or experimental); I am comfortable with stories that interweave reality with fantasy (magical realism); and as in non-fiction, I love novels with adventure, and especially novels that take place in foreign countries. In my imagination and in my dreams I am an adventurous world traveler.
Finally, when I enter into a relationship with an author I promise to: a) work very hard on your behalf; b) help you develop your talent; c) help you perfect the manuscript and prepare it for sale; d) stay within reach and keep you abreast of developments; and e) rejoice in your success!
Submission guidelines:
Please send: a one-page query letter along with the first three pages of the manuscript and a single page synopsis. (I repeat, single!) That equals a total of 5 pages. Following these directions is important. Please be neat and include a SASE and e-mail address. Query letter should include a brief one-paragraph bio (include writing credits, educational background, any other pertinent information), a short description of the story, and three or four authors you admire and the titles of their books.

The Life and Fate of the Indian Tiger
by Tobias Lanz (Author)
There may be no more magnificent animal than the tiger. Yet, around the world, their populations are dwindling, and the Indian Bengal tiger is no exception. Some estimates say there are fewer than 2,000 Bengal tigers and the entire world tiger population may be less than 3,000. The Life and Fate of the Indian Tiger offers a unique perspective on these exquisite cats. Author Tobias J. Lanz, who has been studying Indian tigers since 1998, incorporates historical and cultural topics, as well as conservation and social theories into his narrative. He paints a detailed portrait of the tiger's life in the wild, enriching that picture with descriptions of the plant, animal, and human life found in India's diverse tiger habitats. Personal observations on local cultures, scenery, and wildlife are balanced by discussions with the Indian people, ranging from government officials to villagers.
The Indian tiger continues to survive against great odds. Written in part to engage the reader in conservation efforts, The Life and Fate of the Indian Tiger outlines the main programs and policies enacted to save the tiger in India. Lanz dedicates a final chapter to global efforts at tiger conservation, explaining what can and must be done to safeguard one of the world's rarest and most beautiful creatures from extinction.
